Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality

Overview:

The Mangaung Metro is actively addressing climate change through a variety of projects aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and resilience. Key initiatives include the management of the Southern Waste Disposal Facility, which focuses on effective waste management practices to minimize environmental impact. The development of inland small-scale fisheries supports sustainable aquatic resource management. Environmental education and awareness programs engage the community in climate action, while compliance initiatives ensure adherence to environmental regulations.

Water management is a critical focus, with projects such as the provision of boreholes, waterborne sanitation systems, and stormwater management designed to enhance water security in the face of climate variability. The refurbishment of sewer systems and infrastructure improvements, including main roads and stormwater systems, further contribute to community resilience. Additionally, the rehabilitation of wetlands and open spaces promotes biodiversity and ecosystem health. Collectively, these projects reflect Mangaung Metro’s commitment to fostering a sustainable and climate-resilient future for its residents.
