Lejweleputswa District

Overview:

The Lejweleputswa District is focused on enhancing municipal services and sustainability through a range of initiatives. Key projects include the development of an Integrated Waste Management Plan and efficient operation of the Odendaalsrus Landfill Site. Significant upgrades to water and sewer infrastructure are underway, with new reticulation networks and meter installations across various localities. The district is also promoting renewable energy through solar panel installations and exploring energy generation from coal gasification and organic materials. Additionally, greening efforts, such as tree planting, and stormwater management projects are being implemented to improve environmental sustainability and public health.

Projects:

Waste Management Initiatives:
  • Integrated Waste Management Plan: Developing a comprehensive plan for effective waste management across the district.
  • Odendaalsrus Landfill Site: Efficient operation and management of the landfill to ensure environmental compliance.

Water and Sanitation Projects:
  • Water and Sewer Reticulation: Installation of new water and sewer networks in multiple localities, including:
    1. Welkom Hani Park (Thabong Ext 18)
    2. Thabong Extensions 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 & 11
    3. Kutlwanong Ext 13
  • Water Meter Installations: Implementation of domestic, zonal, and bulk water meters in various communities.
  • Upgrading of Wastewater Treatment Works (WWTW): Refurbishments and upgrades in multiple locations, including Winburg and Thabong.

Renewable Energy Initiatives:
  • Solar Panel Installations: Fitting solar panels on municipal buildings and Wastewater Treatment Works to harness renewable energy.
  • Energy Generation Projects: Exploring coal gasification and energy generation from organic material decomposition.

Environmental Sustainability Efforts:
  • Tree Planting: Ongoing greening projects to enhance the natural environment.
  • Stormwater Management: Construction of stormwater drainage systems in various wards to mitigate flooding and improve water quality.
