Fezile Dabi District

Overview:

The Fezile Dabi District is dedicated to enhancing environmental sustainability through a range of impactful projects. Key initiatives include retrofitting street lights and high mast luminaires to reduce energy consumption, alongside the construction of new concrete reservoirs in Namahadi and Steynsrus to improve water storage and distribution. Waste management efforts focus on promoting better environmental practices through community engagement in street cleaning, illegal dump clearance, and educational campaigns. The district is also actively involved in an Alien Plant Clearing Project aimed at preserving local biodiversity. Local municipalities are collaborating on various greening initiatives, including the development of Green Plans and the eradication of illegal dumping. Water sector improvements are underway, with projects aimed at upgrading sanitation infrastructure and ensuring access to potable water by 2027. Together, these projects reflect the district’s commitment to sustainable development and resilience against climate change.

Energy Sector:
  • Retrofitting street lights and high mast luminaires: Upgrading lighting technology in Fezile Dabi to reduce energy consumption.

Water Sector:
  • 12 ML Concrete Reservoir in Namahadi: Construction of a new reservoir to enhance local water storage.
  • 2.15 ML Reservoir in Steynsrus: Supports the local water supply with a new facility.
  • WC/WDM and Groundwater Study in Mafube LM: Focus on water conservation strategies and studies.

Waste Sector:
  • Environmental Management Practices Project: Promoting street cleaning, clearing illegal dumps, and conducting environmental education in Fezile Dabi.
  • Review of Integrated Waste Management Plan in Mafube: Updating strategies for effective waste management.
  • Development of a New Landfill Site: Enhancing waste management facilities in the district.

Greening Sector:
  • Development of Green Plans: Enhancing sustainability through greening efforts across local municipalities.
  • Cleaning and Greening Project: Initiatives to clean public spaces and promote environmental greening.

Biodiversity Sector:
  • Alien Plant Clearing Project: Removal of invasive species to restore ecosystems in the Fezile Dabi district.

Provincial Initiatives:
  • Update of Wetland Maps: Improving wetland management practices at the provincial level.
  • Anti-Poaching Projects: Initiatives aimed at combating poaching and promoting conservation efforts.
